The Quirky Cup Collective: Catering to Readers’ Idiosyncrasies One Book Trinket at a Time

I was doing my bedtime ritual of perusing Reddit one night when I came across a post on r/Kindle showing off an e-book reader sleeve they just got from the mail. From the picture, I could tell it was made with lush velvet fabric. Sporting an intricate embroidery in the front, I thought it was more than just a sleeve—it was a work of art.

Being an owner of two Kindle devices myself, I had to know where I could get such nice protective covers for my prized possessions. So, I clicked on the post and found that a small business based in South Australia called The Quirky Cup Collective sold the sleeve.

I was at a fever pitch scrolling through their website because apart from e-reader sleeves, most of their other wares—including journals, enamel pins and funky stickers—were made for the most voracious of readers. I had to exercise a strong amount of willpower to not add everything in their catalogue to my cart.

Quirky is as quirky does

The creative mind behind The Quirky Cup Collective is Sydonie Baldissera, who founded her business while she was running a clothing boutique store with her mother.

It all started when Baldissera thought of gifting her friends hand-painted teacups reflecting their respective “quirks” for the holidays. Because her friends loved the teacups so much, Baldissera decided to keep hand-painting teacups to sell. From there, The Quirky Cup Collective was born.

When her mother sold the clothing boutique shop, Baldissera pulled a big move of gambling all her savings to get the teacups printed, turning her hobby into an actual business in 2017.

Now, The Quirky Cup Collective has evolved into a bookworm’s little online wonderland, with so many beautiful reading accessories to choose from.

I have always wanted to get a reading journal that would motivate me to fill it out every time I finish a book. Because I have read thousands of books in my lifetime, I have a lot of trouble remembering the plot of each book in my collection. Hence, my need for a reading journal—just to help keep me on track and to have something to look back to when someone asks me for a book recommendation.

When I saw The Quirky Cup Collective also sold reading journals, I knew I had to grab one. I also purchased sleeves in both sizes for my Kindle Paperwhite and my Kindle Scribe, a couple of stickers and an enamel pin.

My quirky haul

Made of Stars Kindle and E-reader Sleeve

When I say the photos on the shop’s website didn’t do this sleeve any justice, I truly mean it. I fell completely in love the moment my hands brushed against its lush velvety fabric.

Meanwhile, the inside of the sleeve is lined with satin and is padded to keep my Kindle in place while being stuffed in my bag when I’m out and about.

Because I adore everything whimsical, so the dreamy embroidery in the front is my favorite feature. It just adds so much character to the sleeve.

Of course, I couldn’t resist getting the bigger version for my Kindle Scribe . This sleeve has all the features that the smaller one has. It fits my bigger Kindle so well and I really appreciate how much padding it has to keep my device secured during travel.

You can also use it as a book cover! Photo by Michelle Lavergne.

Reading Journal in Wisteria

This is probably one of the best purchases I have ever made in 2024. This reading journal is packed with all the features I was looking for, as it caters to both hardcore and casual book reviewers.

Because I have busy days, trying to find the time to fill in a reading journal can be tough for me. That’s why I appreciate that this journal has a section for quick reviews for books that I may not be compelled to write more insightful feedback for.

This reading journal also has sections for your “To Be Read” list, upcoming book release dates you are watching out for and reading challenges among many others.

Stickers and an Enamel Pin

I enjoy showcasing my entire personality by sticking my bags with a bunch of enamel pins and covering my laptop cases with stickers. Since The Quirky Cup Collective sold both, I could not resist getting the a couple of these items to complete my haul.

I have to say, they look even better in person!
